The Dutch energy transition is moving faster — and becoming more complex. For our client Kenter Groendus, we are looking for a Director of Renewables: a senior level position for a Director responsible for developing, expanding, and optimizing the company's renewable energy portfolio in line with longterm corporate strategy and growth objectives. The Director is accountable for setting the vision and direction for renewable energy activities and ensuring they contribute significantly to the company's profitablility and market positioning.

Your job

The Director of Renewables reports directly to the CEO and leads the identification and execution of new business opportunities in solar, both rooftop and ground mounted, BESS and hybrid solutions, while meeting target return rates in line with the company risk appetite and ensuring compliance with dynamic regulatory frameworks and technical standards. In close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders—including M&A, commercial product management, business development, operations, finance, financial institutions, regulators, and customers—you drive innovation, ensure the commercial viability of projects and secure strategic partnerships and acquisitions that accelerate renewable growth.
The role spans the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects: from strategic planning and pipeline development to project execution/asset management (the responsibility of the COO) and asset portfolio performance optimisation. The Director of Renewables is responsible for building and leading a multidisciplinary team that understands the energy market, commercial/contracting strategies, forecasting, trading and risk management and diversification to develop viable projects across Solar, BESS and Hybrid.
In this innovative and demanding role the Director of Renewables will collaborate, together with the multi-disciplinary team, with CFO, COO, CCO, Coporate finance, Legal, M&A, Business Development, Commercial Product Management, Sales, Operations and Shareholders.

Key responsibilities

• Add to the existing talent and capabilities in the company to build and grow a multi-disciplinary renewable energy team across project development, commercial solutions, project execution and portfolio optimization and flexibility
• With the multidisciplinary team, identify and evaluate business opportunities in renewables (including ready to build solar and BESS in collaboration with M&A), considering electricity market dynamics, trading, contracting and risk management strategies including integration of solar/wind with BESS
• Own the renewable growth roadmap and implement a structured portfolio governance structure to prioritize, stage-gate, and monitor proposition and portfolio/M&A development in alignment with strategic goals
• Ensure efficient conversion of pipeline commercially viable projects with strict management of development process (e.g., support arrangements, customer contracts, commercial solutions (e.g., PPA, FPA, tolling) etc.)
• Build relationships with financial institutions, industry partners and manage partnerships and M&A activities in renewables
• In close cooperation with Operations, drive operational excellence and cost efficiency in project delivery and asset management
• In close cooperation with Business Development, shape the innovation funnel and ensure, when appropriate, a clear handover from validated proposition to scaled implementation
• Ensure renewable portfolio optimization/maximize the commercial performance of the assets, combining the asset-portfolio with EMS, EMP and energy trading/contracting, this in close cooperation with relevant stakeholders/ partners
• Ensure compliance with Dutch and EU renewable energy and grid regulations
• Represent the company in relevant industry forums and with government / regulatory bodies
• Identify, shape and value future propositions to strengthen business cases beyond risk focus and to unlock more value from existing assets & grid connections (creative value modelling and opportunity sizing) and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and accountability
• Create business cases and presentations to support executive and shareholder decision-making
• Advise the CEO on strategic renewable growth opportunities and renewable market developments
