Overview

System Architect

At Nearfield Instruments we're looking for a System Architect to join our team. Full-time. Location: Rotterdam.

What you’ll do

You will be technically responsible for a subsystem from concept to volume production and service. You will work across mechatronics, mechanics, electronics, software and control to meet demanding performance requirements and translate performance ambitions into concrete designs.

  • Translating system-level requirements into subsystem concepts, functional architecture and engineering specifications.
  • Taking technical ownership of subsystem development projects and aligning all disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Making architectural decisions on sensing, actuation, motion design, control strategy and integration approach.
  • Shaping the subsystem roadmap in line with company and customer needs.
  • Leading trade-offs between performance, cost, manufacturability, reliability and serviceability.
  • Providing context and guidance to engineers and reviewing designs, simulations and integration plans.
  • Supporting industrialisation, validation and release into manufacturing and field use.
  • Collaborating with system architects, project managers and lead engineers to ensure technical excellence and on-time delivery.

Who you’ll be

You will join our high-impact, internationally diverse Mechatronics team and collaborate with colleagues in System Engineering, Electronics, Software, Control and Mechanics. You will design and realise machines that push the boundaries of semiconductor metrology.

What you’ll bring

  • An MSc or PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related field
  • Around 7 years of relevant industrial experience in multidisciplinary high-tech product development
  • Proven ability to translate performance requirements into subsystem architectures
  • Broad technical knowledge, ideally with a mechatronics background; mechanical engineers with relevant skills are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary development projects from concept to release
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex problems clearly to different stakeholders and guide teams effectively
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to take ownership, make decisions and coach others
  • A good command of English, both spoken and written
