ML Data Engineering Lead

I am collaborating with a very exciting, incredibly well backed, start up, Biotech company with offices in Amsterdam and Zurich, they have built a Clinical AI assistant for Oncology and are working with a huge amount of healthcare data.

I am looking for an experienced ML Data Engineering Lead to join their team. As the ML Data Engineering Lead, you will be at the center of this effort. You’ll guide a substantial portion of the data strategy and define the technical vision for our ingestion, synthetic data generation, and filtering workflows.

You’ll collaborate closely with the ML research lead to ensure that infrastructure, architecture, and experimentation priorities tightly support research objectives and accelerate model development.

This role blends leadership with hands-on engineering: you'll drive execution on critical data systems while mentoring and developing a growing team.

About you

• You have experience leading technical teams, including hiring, coaching, and developing engineers to excel in ambitious environments.

• You’ve been responsible for the technical direction of large-scale data pipelines, setting long-term architectural vision across ingestion, synthetic data creation, and filtering in alignment with organizational and research goals.

• You bring deep, practical expertise in designing and running high-scale data systems, including synthetic data pipelines for LLMs, data-quality experimentation, and foundational data operations such as hashing, deduplication, and chunking.

• You maintain strong programming abilities in Python and have substantial experience with distributed computing frameworks like Ray or Spark.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience orchestrating complex DAGs using Dagster (preferred) or comparable workflow engines.

• Strong familiarity with data-quality/validation frameworks and modern observability and monitoring tools.

• A solid understanding of machine-learning fundamentals—model architectures, training workflows, and evaluation methods—to effectively partner with researchers and guide data-centric decisions.
