The position

As a Kotlin Developer Payments at agap2, you take on the challenge within an international environment with a local focus. Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled Kotlin Developer Payments with deep expertise in Java , strong professional experience in Kotlin , and a solid background in building scalable, event-driven systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in distributed architectures, crafting clear and effective user stories, and ensuring system reliability through robust testing and observability practices.

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java , Kotlin , and Spring Boot .
  • Contribute to and optimize event-driven architectures leveraging technologies such as Kafka .
  • Translate business requirements into actionable user stories and deliver high-quality technical solutions.
  • Build and maintain REST APIs following architectural best practices.
  • Work within a microservices architecture , ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting aligned with observability best practices .
  • Collaborate on data persistence solutions using PostgreSQL , MongoDB , or similar databases.
  • Write high-quality unit and integration tests using frameworks like JUnit , Mockk , and Mockito .

What you bring to the position

  • Strong experience with Java , plus 4–5 years of Kotlin experience .
  • Solid knowledge of Spring Boot and event-driven design (Kafka or equivalent).
  • Deep understanding of asynchronous communication patterns (Kafka, RabbitMQ, message queues).
  • Proven ability to draft, refine, and deliver user stories and turn requirements into technical designs.
  • Strong understanding of REST API architecture principles .
  • Experience working with microservice-based systems .
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools (monitoring, logging, alerting).
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL , MongoDB , or similar databases.
  • Proficiency in writing unit/integration tests using JUnit, Mockk, Mockito, etc.

Nice-to-Have Requirements

  • Experience with high-volume, business-critical systems that require strict resilience.
  • Familiarity with designing-for-failure patterns : retries, idempotency, fallbacks, circuit breakers.
  • Experience with contract-first REST API development using OpenAPI.
  • Ability to debug issues across distributed microservice architectures .
  • Understanding of performance testing and experience with Gatling (Kotlin) .
  • Basic experience running and debugging services in Kubernetes .
