Senior Linux Engineer


We’re partnering with a leading telecom provider to find a Senior Linux Engineer for a fast developing engineering team in the Netherlands. It’s a strong match for someone who thrives in technical environments and wants to improve infrastructure and automation in a large scale setting.

You’ll work on core Linux platform engineering, support major infrastructure projects, and help the team mature its automation, lifecycle management, and delivery processes. The environment is complex and high impact, and you’ll play a key role in keeping mission critical systems stable, scalable, and well maintained.

Your Day to Day: Linux Engineering, Automation, and Infrastructure Delivery

  • Maintain and improve Linux and Unix systems across large, distributed environments.
  • Contribute to automation work that strengthens reliability and reduces manual tasks.
  • Support the delivery and enhancement of new platforms, services, and internal tooling.
  • Work on lifecycle management of systems and software to keep the environment current.
  • Troubleshoot issues across OS, services, networking, and infrastructure layers.
  • Build and maintain configuration management pipelines using Puppet or similar tooling.
  • Write scripts in Bash or another programming language such as Python or Go to automate recurring tasks.
  • Collaborate with architects, platform teams, and internal stakeholders to align on delivery.
  • Help improve ways of working within the Linux team through knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Operate with a mix of autonomy and teamwork, contributing to a structured and supportive engineering culture.

What You Bring (and What You’ll Grow Into)

  • 5 to 7 years experience as a Linux engineer or administrator in enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems, ideally Debian or Red Hat based.
  • Hands on scripting experience in Bash plus one other language such as Python, Ruby, PHP, or Go. This is essential, especially if you don’t have Puppet experience.
  • Experience with configuration management using Puppet or similar tools, plus Git, CI or CD, and CMDB.
  • Familiarity with services such as Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, or Elastic Stack.
  • Understanding of core security principles including Kerberos, LDAP, and Radius.
  • Good working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
  • General networking understanding including load balancers, routing, and firewalls.
  • Curiosity, clear communication, and a practical mindset that fits well in an Agile team.
  • Interest in growing your expertise in automation and modern infrastructure tooling.
