The Financial Crime Prevention (FCP) team in North America is offering a position in New York for a professional who enjoys working in an international banking environment. The FCP department coordinates all KYC related activities across different ING business sectors, both with external clients and internal stakeholders.
The FCP team is crucial in the onboarding of new customers and plays a key role in managing the non-financial risk of the current client portfolio.
About the position
As the head of the Customer Intelligence Unit at ING FCP, you will play a pivotal role in driving the Transaction Monitoring and Screening processes, which include Name Screening, Adverse Media Screening, and Transaction Sanction Screening.
ING is growing fast and in the process of further extending its product offering. This is a new position in an existing team and the successful candidate will build the team, processes and tooling from the ground up, leveraging existing solutions in the ING network.
Once implemented, your primary responsibility will be to maintain the effectiveness of these processes by balancing risk coverage and efficient alert handling.
Responsibilities
Coverage & Configuration
- Support coverage assessments across products, entities, and behaviors; identify blind spots.
- Work with Global teams to determine scenario weights, thresholds, risk scores, and settings in tooling per approved change controls.
- Maintain business rules/parameterization catalog; implement approved changes.
Network & Intelligence
- Support global teams in building or using network graphs and link analysis for typology discovery and case enrichment.
- Support global teams in conducting typology assessment and review (threat intel, red flags, emerging risks); propose scenario logic/controls.
- Conduct forensic/intelligence analysis of escalated cases to identify missed detections and tuning opportunities.
Scenario/Model Management
- Support global teams in designing Transaction Monitoring rules, scenarios, and features, partner with Model Risk for validation expectations.
- Design the expected Transaction Monitoring model‑tuning approach and provide oversight of the end‑to‑end process.
- Work with the Global team to validate current screening settings and configurations.
- Measure effectiveness (precision/recall, alert quality, productivity, sanctions match quality).
- Support ATL/BTL (Above /Below the Line) testing for scenarios/models and parameter changes.
Transaction Coverage
- Validate transaction types/flows are mapped into relevant scenarios and screened pathways.
- Validate data completeness to source to target system.
- Recommend compensating controls where tooling gaps exist.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- 10+ years’ experience within Financial Crime Compliance, regulations and industry best practices. Either as a consultant or in the industry.
- Prior managerial experience in Screening & Transaction Monitoring is non‑negotiable, including a track record of successful collaboration with US regulators (e.g., OCC, FINRA, Federal Reserve).
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite; advanced skills are beneficial.
- ACAMS certification preferred.

- Ability to manage and motivate staff: you maneuver easily through complex policies, processes and people‑related organizational dynamics across ING.
- Ability to run projects and initiatives with limited supervision.
Salary range: $178,000-225,000.
