Development Engineer – Electric Marine PropulsionLocation: Amsterdam, NetherlandsSalary: CompetitiveIndustry: Marine / Clean Energy TechnologyOverview of the role: We are working with a forward-thinking marine technology business operating at the forefront of maritime electrification and sustainable propulsion. They are looking to hire a Development Engineer to take a leading role in bringing next-generation electrical systems to life, spanning sectors including fully electric propulsion, serial hybrid drives, and hydrogen fuel cell technology. This is a full-time, hybrid role (60% office based in Amsterdam, 40% remote) sitting within an ambitious and fast-moving development team, working alongside colleagues across sales, supply chain, service, and international engineering counterparts.RequirementsEssential:A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a discipline of equivalent relevanceHands-on experience at one or more stages of the engineering development lifecycle, whether that is concept design, prototyping, testing, or final implementationA genuine enthusiasm for electric systems and sustainable technology, backed by an entrepreneurial spirit and the drive to push ideas through from concept to realityStrong analytical and reporting capabilities, with the ability to work through complex technical problems whilst keeping a clear picture of the bigger project goalsProfessional-level fluency in English, both written and spoken, with the communication skills to work effectively across diverse, international teamsRequired / Highly Preferred:Practical experience with electric drives, electric propulsion systems, or closely related technologyFamiliarity with CAN protocols and other electrical communication systems used in marine or automotive environmentsCompetence in 2D/3D CAD tools, with experience producing detailed technical drawings and supporting documentationA track record of conducting feasibility studies, capturing product requirements, and converting them into well-defined functional and technical specificationsExperience developing and executing test plans, building prototypes, and carrying out thorough design validation activitiesWorking knowledge of FMEA and its role in producing robust, reliable system designsBeneficial:Experience contributing to or facilitating design reviews, with the confidence to keep stakeholders aligned across complex, multi-department projectsExposure to international supplier engagement or field-based testing, including occasional travelFamiliarity with marine or automotive engineering standards, regulations, or product certification processesDarwin Recruitment is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy.Oliver Stewart
