Staff Platform Engineer

As Staff Platform Engineer at Sendcloud, you own the technical direction for the infrastructure and developer experience that powers thousands of European e-commerce businesses. You shape cross-team architecture, standards, and delivery quality, ensuring reliability at scale. This role is a deep-technical, non-management IC path focused on strategic platform initiatives and prevention of failures. You collaborate with leadership to steer the Platform domain toward measurable business outcomes and engineering velocity.

• Define and own the technical strategy for cross-cutting platform capabilities (infrastructure reliability, observability, progressive delivery, security controls, developer experience tooling)
• Lead architectural decisions across Foundation and Developer Platform with focus on business outcomes
• Establish platform-wide standards for IaC, Kubernetes patterns, SLO/SLI, observability, and zero-trust security
• Evaluate strategic technical choices (Aurora PostgreSQL migration, AWS Graviton, Okta IAM consolidation, OAuth2)
• Identify and remediate systemic technical debt impacting delivery and reliability
• Scope and lead large, cross-team platform initiatives (e.g., Progressive Delivery, Domain-Based IaC)
• Own post-mortem delivery with cross-team RCIs and SLA-compliant action items
• Participate in on-call and contribute to Peak Season capacity planning and org-wide technical programs
• Mentor senior engineers in cloud architecture, reliability, and platform thinking
• Produce internal artefacts (runbooks, ADRs, golden paths) to reduce tribal knowledge
• Promote Platform as a Product mindset with compliant tooling and standards

• 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including ≥3 years at senior/staff level in platform/infrastructure/SRE
• Deep AWS expertise: EKS, VPC/networking, IAM, RDS/Aurora, ElastiCache, S3, CloudFront, WAF, KMS, Lambda
• Production-grade Kubernetes experience: Helm, Karpenter, Envoy Gateway, KEDA, Kyverno, RBAC, scale
• Infrastructure as Code mastery: Terraform modules, state management, scalable design
• CI/CD & progressive delivery: GitLab CI, Argo CD, Argo Rollouts, canary/blue-green, delivery design
• Observability: Datadog, SLOs/SLIs, dashboards, log config, DORA metrics
• Security mindset: IAM hygiene, zero-trust, secrets management, JIT, OAuth2/OIDC, audit logging, compliance readiness (SOC2, GDPR)
• Proven track record delivering complex cross-team initiatives from framing to production
• Strong written and verbal English for ADRs, reviews, and cross-stakeholder communication
