Senior Backend Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Sendcloud, you shape technical roadmaps and deliver large, multi-phase features that empower thousands of merchants. You own systems end-to-end, drive reliable, scalable architecture, and mentor peers while collaborating with product and DevOps teams. • Shape technical direction and refine roadmaps for multi-phase projects to deliver customer value
• Lead large features and projects with multiple engineers amid ambiguous requirements
• Own systems from design to production, ensuring reliability and balancing new delivery with technical debt
• Design and implement distributed, event-driven systems with service-to-service APIs
• Mentor engineers, drive documentation and knowledge sharing
• Collaborate with Product, Design, DevOps, QA and other engineering teams, communicating risk to non-technical stakeholders

• 5+ years with Python and frameworks like FastAPI or Django
• Extensive experience building REST APIs
• Led and delivered large, complex projects with ambiguous requirements
• Built distributed, event-driven systems with service-to-service APIs
• Deep understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL) including data modelling, indexing, and query optimisation
• Experience with non-relational databases
• Comfort with Linux and command line
• Experience with Docker, AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
