Senior PostgreSQL DBA (AWS / RDS)

As Senior PostgreSQL DBA, you own the PostgreSQL estate end-to-end on AWS RDS/Aurora, setting the standard for performance, schema design, and reliability. You drive backup and disaster recovery, guarding data availability for a microservices-based platform serving 30,000+ retailers. You act as the go-to PostgreSQL expert for engineering teams, shaping strategy, tooling, and cost-efficiency as we scale. This is a hands-on, impactful role with cross-team influence.

• Operate and optimize PostgreSQL clusters on AWS RDS/Aurora to prevent incidents and maintain predictable performance
• Analyse and tune complex queries, indexes, and schemas for scale
• Own backup and disaster-recovery strategy with regular restore testing and clear RTO/RPO targets
• Lead major-version upgrades and zero-downtime migrations in production environments
• Design scalable schemas for a microservices setup with partitioning, denormalisation, replication, and indexing
• Incorporate security into schema design with row-level security and least-privilege access
• Drive PostgreSQL enablement across engineering via playbooks, training, and hygiene guidelines
• Collaborate with Platform and Product Engineering to ensure data reliability, performance, and scalability
• Contribute to long-term PostgreSQL strategy including tooling, observability, and cost-efficiency

• 5+ years in database engineering/administration focused on PostgreSQL
• 4+ years in high-availability production environments
• 3+ years operating PostgreSQL on AWS (RDS/Aurora) with backups, replication, monitoring, and tuning
• 3+ years in cloud-native/SaaS environments with microservices
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals (planner, vacuuming, WAL, query plans) and経験 solving bottlenecks at scale
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and DevOps practices (Git, Terraform, CI/CD)
• Reading Python code with ORMs like SQLAlchemy or Django ORM
• Nice to have: experience with connection pooling (RDS Proxy) or contributions to open-source PostgreSQL tooling
