Staff Software Engineer, Marketing Tech

In this role you will help build scalable advertising and marketing platforms that empower sellers and advertisers on eBay. You’ll work across frontend, backend, APIs, data pipelines, and AI-driven workflows in a fast-moving, high-scale environment. You’ll partner with product, design, analytics, and ML teams to deliver reliable, measurable impact on customer and seller experiences. • Build scalable advertising and marketing platform features to grow seller and advertiser business
• Develop high-availability applications, APIs, and services using Java, Scala, and modern backend tech
• Own end-to-end delivery from design through deployment and production support
• Drive system design decisions in collaboration with cross-functional teams for scalable, reliable solutions
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to boost engineering velocity and partner with ML engineers on AI-powered capabilities
• Mentor teammates and contribute to engineering best practices and continuous learning

• BS/BA in Computer Science or related field plus 8+ years (or MS with 6+ years) of experience
• Strong Java (17+) and Spring Boot or similar framework experience
• Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Relational and/or NoSQL databases (Oracle/Postgres/MySQL, Cassandra/MongoDB) with schema design and query optimization
• Familiarity with Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Flink) and ability to perform architectural tradeoffs
• Ability to own end-to-end system design and write technical design docs; capable of design reviews
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and exposure to GraphQL, federated APIs, LLM-powered features; open-source contributions a plus
• Strong ownership mentality and ability to drive work end-to-end in a collaborative environment
• Exposure to GraphQL and Federated GraphQL APIs is highly desirable
