Legal Counsel

In this role you support BYD Europe BV's European operations by drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, advising management on legal risk, and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions. You work closely with cross-functional teams to prepare for public procurement and to resolve disputes with external counsel. The role focuses on enabling strategic deals and protecting the business as BYD advances zero-emission transportation in Europe. You will play a key part in training and guiding teams on legal issues while handling diverse regulatory matters. • Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts (distributor/dealer, supply, procurement, after-sales) and provide practical legal advice.
• Support public procurement processes in collaboration with the business team.
• Advise management on legal issues and manage risk to ensure compliance.
• Handle disputes, coordinate litigation/arbitration, and cooperate with external lawyers.
• Provide compliance support and training to the business team on legal matters.
• Summarize risks of current activities and advise on legal strategies.
• Address other European country-specific legal matters as required.

• Master's degree in Law
• 3+ years of professional legal experience (in-house or private practice); automotive industry experience is a plus
• Experience in commercial contracts, corporate law and legal compliance
• Strong negotiation skills in cross-cultural and multi-jurisdictional transactions
• Ability to develop and implement legal strategies and solutions
• Excellent analytical abilities, precise and able to multi-task
• Proactive, diligent, team player with the ability to work independently
• Excellent command of English; knowledge of other European languages or Chinese is a plus
