Chief Financial Officer

PayPro is a Dutch payment institution supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and part of Onerway, an international payments group. PayPro is entering a new phase of development. Over the coming year we are applying for an EMI license, integrating our payment capabilities and financial processes with the wider group and expanding our business in Europe. We are looking for a CFO who can take full ownership of the local Finance function. The role combines financial leadership with practical delivery: maintaining reliable accounts, managing capital and liquidity, leading regulatory financial reporting and audit, and helping the business grow sustainably.

The Role

This is a hands‑on CFO role in a small, regulated business. You will lead PayPro’s financial management and build a Finance function that supports both local regulatory responsibilities and group objectives. You will work closely with the CEO, Risk & Compliance leadership, the local Financial Controller and Onerway Group Finance. This is a role for someone comfortable working in a small team. You should be able to review complex financial matters, investigate discrepancies and build models yourself, while developing the team and improving how Finance operates.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management and Reporting

  • Own the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close for the relevant PayPro entities.
  • Deliver accurate management accounts, balance-sheet reconciliations and group reporting within agreed deadlines.
  • Explain performance against budget, including payment volumes, revenue, margins, operating costs and cash consumption.
  • Oversee intercompany balances, shareholder funding, loans, capital contributions and acquisition‑related accounting.
  • Set accounting policies and review procedures; coordinate tax with external advisers.

2. Regulatory Reporting and Capital Management

  • Own FINREP/COREP and payment-statistics returns, reconciled to transaction data and the ledger, with documented pre‑submission checks.
  • Resolve reporting discrepancies and historical corrections.
  • Monitor regulatory capital, own funds and liquidity against applicable requirements and internal buffers.
  • Forecast funding needs early and coordinate timely capital injections with Group Finance.
  • Work with Risk & Compliance on DNB questions, remediation and financial inputs to recovery and exit planning.

3. Planning, EMI application and commercial finance

  • Build integrated balance‑sheet, profit‑and‑loss, cash‑flow and own‑funds forecasts.
  • Lead the financial model and business plan for the EMI application, and answer DNB’s financial questions during the process.
  • Partner with the Board on budgets, KPIs, pricing and new‑product economics.
  • Analyse profitability by payment channel, merchant segment and activity.

4. Statutory Accounts and Audit

  • Lead preparation and audit of the annual financial statements.
  • Manage the auditor relationship, own accounting judgements and resolve findings.

5. Safeguarding, Treasury and Settlement Controls

  • Oversee safeguarding controls, keeping operational cash, safeguarded funds and settlement obligations separate and reconciled.
  • Supervise daily reconciliation and make sure exceptions are investigated promptly.
  • Oversee merchant balances, refunds, fees, foreign‑exchange differences and intercompany settlements.
  • Manage banking relationships and provide financial input for new accounts, payment channels and scheme requirements.

6. Finance Integration with Onerway

  • Lead the Finance workstream of the integration, agreeing clear ownership across PayPro, Group Finance, Operations and Technology.
  • Improve settlement data and reconciliation across both platforms, cutting manual matching and duplicate reporting.
  • Implement and test controls for intra‑group payment arrangements while keeping clear local accountability.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Senior finance experience in payments, fintech or another regulated financial institution.
  • A recognized accounting qualification (RA, RC, ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Hands‑on ownership of the financial close, management reporting and a statutory audit.
  • Practical knowledge of regulatory financial reporting, capital planning, liquidity and safeguarding.
  • Experience building integrated financial forecasts and explaining assumptions to senior stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Dutch accounting, tax and statutory reporting requirements, supported by advisers where appropriate.
  • Comfortable being both strategic and hands‑on in a small team within a bigger international group.

Preferred

  • Experience in coordinating global financial teams or a growing payments business.
  • Familiarity with Exact Online, payment transaction data and reconciliation automation.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first six months, you will have:

  • Completed the agreed CFO handover and established clear Finance ownership.
  • Delivered reliable monthly reporting and a forward‑looking capital and liquidity forecast.
  • Taken control of the audit timetable and outstanding financial reporting matters.
  • Delivered the required financial models and support for the EMI application.
  • Established documented review procedures for regulatory returns and reconciliation exceptions.
  • Agreed a practical Finance integration plan with Group Finance and Technology.
  • Given management a clear view of profitability, funding needs and the financial impact of growth.
