Freelance Automation Engineer (ZZP) – Siemens-Based Warehouse Systems – Amsterdam

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Duration: 12 months (freelance ZZP contract)

Scope: Siemens PLC & HMI Programming – Conveyor Systems – AS/RS Integration

We are seeking a freelance Automation Engineer (ZZP) to lead the commissioning of a fully automated warehouse and conveyor system in the Amsterdam area. This project is heavily Siemens PLC-based and involves advanced motion control, HMI development, and integration of autonomous storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS).

Your Role

  • Develop, test, and optimize Siemens PLC programs (S7-1500/S7-1200) for warehouse automation.
  • Design, configure, and implement Siemens HMI interfaces (WinCC or TIA Portal) for operator and monitoring use.
  • Commission conveyor drives, lifts, sorters, and robotic interfaces integrated with Siemens controllers.
  • Perform FAT and SAT testing, troubleshoot PLC logic, and optimize system performance.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and IT teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Ensure compliance with CE, safety, and internal client standards.
  • Prepare detailed documentation, test logs, and handover reports.

Your Profile

  • 5+ years’ experience in Siemens-based automation projects , preferably in material handling or warehouse environments.
  • Strong expertise in Siemens TIA Portal , S7 PLC programming, WinCC, and motion control.
  • Hands-on experience with servo drives, Profinet networks, and industrial communication protocols .
  • Proven track record in commissioning large-scale conveyor or AS/RS systems.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch is an advantage.
  • Registered ZZP’er with eligibility to work in the Netherlands.
  • Available for full-time on-site work in Amsterdam.

Bonus Skills

  • Integration experience with WMS/WCS systems .
  • Exposure to AMRs/AGVs or robotic picking systems.
  • Expertise in system optimization, cycle time analysis, and real-time troubleshooting.
