Firmware Engineer – Semiconductor Systems

European Tech Recruit are working closely with an exciting security semicon start-up, based in Amsterdam, who are looking for a talented Firmware Engineer to join their team.

In this role you will play a key part in developing robust, high-performance, and secure firmware for their next-generation products. You’ll be involved across the entire development lifecycle, from pre-silicon validation through post-silicon bring-up, ensuring their solutions meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and security.

Responsibilities as Firmware Engineer :

  • Design, develop, and debug firmware for ARM Cortex-M–based microcontrollers and their associated peripherals.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive unit testing strategies to guarantee code quality and long-term reliability.
  • Actively contribute to both pre-silicon validation and post-silicon bring-up processes.
  • Collaborate with hardware, architecture, and cross-functional teams to define specifications, resolve issues, and optimize system performance.
  • Design and implement secure firmware features, including secure boot and other embedded security mechanisms.
  • Create high-quality, well-documented APIs and uphold strong software design principles throughout the development cycle.
  • Work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment, sharing expertise and promoting best practices.
  • Develop and integrate IoT and networking stacks for connected devices (e.g., TCP/IP, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Matter, Thread).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in firmware development with a strong emphasis on embedded systems.
  • Proven expertise with ARM Cortex-M processors and related peripherals.
  • Hands-on experience with firmware unit testing and participation in both pre- and post-silicon development phases.
  • Strong understanding of API design, maintainable code structure, and software architecture principles.
  • Experience with IoT/networking stacks such as TCP/IP, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Matter, or Thread.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience or strong understanding of embedded system security concepts.
  • Proven experience implementing secure boot solutions.
