Job Description

Rig Manager

Purpose of the job: Planning, preparing, operating and organising all resources and services to ensure timely, safe and efficient operation execution. The responsibility for the day‑to‑day performance of the assigned jack‑ups directly impacts client satisfaction and the financial results of the company.

Position in the organisation

  • Reports directly to the Operations Director
  • Provides direct guidance to the Vessel Management Team (OIM, Maintenance Supervisor/Toolpusher, Barge Supervisor/technical team)
  • Supported by Engineering and Asset Integrity, Crewing, QHSE, Procurement and Financial

Operational Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, organisation, supervision and execution of assigned Operations, Mobilisations and Modifications in accordance with applicable standards, company management system, client requirements, local authorities regulations, contractual obligations and planned maintenance system.
  • Responsible for full operating budget and actual expenditures for the unit(s) under management.
  • Responsible for implementation and execution of the charter party contract(s).
  • Prepares and attends Client meetings, Kick‑off meetings, Safety meetings, Operation meetings, Close‑out meetings etc.
  • Liaises with the unit on the charter/operation preparations and ensures all operation procedures and drawings are discussed with the Vessel Management Team before the start of the operation.
  • Responsible for variation request management to the client.
  • Communicates with Client on contractual, commercial, technical and operational issues.
  • Manages Subcontractors on contractual, commercial, technical and operational issues.
  • Performs interdisciplinary checks on unit modifications, operation specific and general installation procedures.
  • Manages port calls and mobilisations of the units in preparation of offshore executions and manages all onshore support during executions or charter period including progress reports.
  • Manages operations from the base office or, when necessary, from the location of the barges.
  • Implements operation Health & Safety Plans during preparation and execution of operations.
  • Monitors operations closely, anticipates problems and solves them, creating solutions to avoid unnecessary expenditure.
  • Performs regular inspections on board units, verifies effectiveness of the maintenance system, reports findings to Operations Director, Engineering and Asset Integrity Manager and advises on necessary improvements via Management of Change procedure.
  • Ensures correct technical information of the unit systems is kept in the maintenance database.
  • Prepares, manages and closes annual mandatory inspections by Classification Society Flag State and related activities of necessary third parties and other inspections resulting from local regulations or preventive maintenance on time.
  • Selects and assesses crew including review sessions on the Core Team.
  • Facilitates continuous improvement process on safety behaviour, monitors safety performance and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Provides tender/commercial input for new opportunities.
  • Guards the general and contractual interests of the company.

Additional Responsibilities on Health, Safety and Environment

  • Demonstrates personal commitment to JUBO and client safety management system.
  • Ensures safety objectives set by JUBO and Client are met and all accidents, near‑miss incidents and significant damages are thoroughly investigated to initiate improvements and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensures risk assessments are performed for all scope of work related activities.
  • Fully respects the environment and thinks in terms of sustainability.

Leadership/Coaching Activities

  • Manages personnel in accordance with JUBO personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ensures personnel demonstrate commitment to safety by adhering to all safety related policies, procedures, programs and written instructions.
  • Ensures performance appraisals are carried out in the required time.
  • Maintains regular communication with offshore personnel, advising them of JUBO objectives, development, new opportunities and maintains an open‑door policy to discuss or resolve any problems.

  • JUBO’s contractual interests are known and always considered.
  • Accountable for successful execution of overall operational management and service delivery of the assigned jack‑up barge(s) in accordance with applicable standards, regulations, contracts, JUBO’s management system and planned maintenance system.
  • Actions are governed by applicable laws, regulations and internal policies and procedures in JUBO’s Management System and Responsibility Matrix.
  • Makes decisions in planning, coordination, budget and execution of operations.
  • Operates within the budget for operations or idle status.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong operational and technical background, relevant qualifications: BSc/MSc in Nautical degree, Offshore Engineering, Marine, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar job in the offshore or marine environment with proven track record in the MOU industry.
  • Knowledge of applicable items of corporate management system and general operation management: contract management (BIMCO), financial and administration management, QHSE, personnel and planning, procurement & logistics, deck management, operation management, maintenance management.
  • Knowledge of Jack‑Up Barge specific operation management instructions and manuals and ability to perform accordingly if required.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.
  • Good level of computer literacy.
