Software Product Assurance Engineer (Space Industry)


The Position

As part of our expanding team, we are looking for an experienced Software PA Engineer to join us in Leiden and contribute to our project within the space sector.


As a PA Engineer, your main tasks will include:


As a Software Product Assurance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that software developed for our space systems meets the highest standards of quality, reliability, safety, and compliance. You will act as the independent assurance authority within projects, supporting engineering teams throughout the full software lifecycle.


  • Preparing and reviewing Software Product Assurance documentation for major design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, QR, AR)
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable standards (e.g., ECSS software and product assurance standards)
  • Supporting the development and review of:, Software Development Plans (SDP), Software Verification & Validation Plans (SVVP), Software Configuration Management Plans (SCMP), and software test plans and procedures
  • Supporting and reviewing Software FMEA/FMECA, risk assessments, and reliability analyses
  • Verifying requirements traceability from system level down to software implementation
  • Monitoring software quality metrics, test coverage, and non-conformance reports
  • Supporting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Reviewing COTS/OTS software assessments
  • Participating in internal and customer audits
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams


Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (HBO/WO) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in Software Product Assurance, Software Quality Assurance, or safety-critical software engineering
  • Experience in the space industry or other regulated industries (avionics, automotive, medical, rail) is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with: Software lifecycle models (e.g., V-model), Requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS or similar), Software risk analysis methods (FMEA/FMECA, FTA), and configuration management principles
  • Strong understanding of compliance-driven development environments
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with project teams
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
